A practical packing checklist for a day in Wilpattu National Park — from clothing and sun protection to cameras and snacks.
A safari day in Wilpattu is dusty, warm and wonderfully rewarding. A little preparation makes it much more comfortable.
Clothing
- ✓Neutral colours (khaki, olive, beige) help you blend in and keep the dust less visible.
- ✓Long sleeves and long trousers protect against sun and insects — lightweight cotton is ideal.
- ✓A light jacket for the cool early-morning start.
Sun and comfort
- ✓Sunscreen (SPF 50), a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
- ✓Insect repellent.
- ✓A refillable water bottle — we provide drinking water on board.
Photography and birding
- ✓A camera with a telephoto lens (100–400mm works well) and spare batteries/memory cards.
- ✓Binoculars — we can also provide these for birding guests.
- ✓A lens cloth — the dust is persistent.
