Wilpattu is one of the most biologically rich parks in Sri Lanka. Here are the animals most often encountered on a safari — and what to keep your eyes open for.

Sri Lankan Leopard

The park's star attraction and one of the highest leopard densities in the country. Leopards are most active around dawn and dusk, often resting on the open plains near the Willus after hunting at night.

Sloth Bear

Wilpattu is one of the best places in Sri Lanka to see the shaggy sloth bear. They are most active in the morning and evening, wandering the scrub looking for termite mounds and fruit.

Elephants, deer and more
